4 Days Uganda Birding Safari
This 4 Days Uganda birding safaris take you from Heritage trails to Mabamba Swamp which is a Ramsar Site and important bird area that extends across a shallow marshy bay on the northern shore of Lake Victoria. Over 300 bird species are recorded in this swamp and a boat trip is usually used to sport different bird species such as blue-breasted bee-eater, lesser jacana, pygmy goose, papyrus gonolex, billed turn and many more. Mabira Forest is rich in biodiversity – including a number of endemic and endangered species – the forest boasts over 312 different species of trees, over 315 species of birds such as Turacos, hornbills, eagles, Nahan’s Francolin, and many more, and over 218 species of butterfly. The reserve offers visitors opportunities to participate in a number of outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, zip-lining, and more.

Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Hotel
You will be warmly received by a representative of Great Nest Image Safaris who will brief you about this trip and later transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe. You may decide to spend the afternoon at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, home to captive animals and over 170 species of birds Plus some notable 7 species of weavers, such as the rare Northern Masked Weaver and Orange Weaver depending on the time of arrival or check in your lodge to rest. Overnight at your booked hotel.

Day 2: Birding along Heritage trails
Early morning breakfast will be transferred to the Heritage Trails, situated about 10 km from Entebbe. Here you are free to spend 4 hours of birding on the best trails around Kampala, with over 170 species of birds! Sight out for many different bird species that includes; Fain tailed Widow bird, White headed Barbets, the Brown Twin Spots, Moustached Warbler, Blue Monarch, Striped Kingfisher, Black Bishop, Black headed Gonolek, Klass’, Diederik’s Cuckoo and many others. Go with packed lunch at the park, have it, relax while birding and later return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Full day birding in Mabamba swamp
After early delicious breakfast, transfer to Mabamba Swamp, 50 km west of Kampala. Sight out for many different birds alongside our journey to the swamp, like the Northern Brown throated Papyrus Gonolek, White winged Warbler, Weaver and Weyns Weaver. Mabamba Swamp is one of the best places to spot the rare Shoebill Stork. But also many other species can be found here, like African Water Rail, Squacco, the Allen’s Gallinule, Purple Gallinule (swamp hen), Grey herons, Goliath, Purple and a variety of egrets and ducks. Enjoy the rich birdlife is in the best way that is by canoe where if lucky enough you might even encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitant at Cassia Lodge. Get back in the afternoon as you drive towards Kampala to your hotel. Dinner and Overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Full day birding in Mabria forest-Transfer to Entebbe/Kampala
Early morning breakfast, we transfer towards Mabira Forest of about an hour drive from Kampala and as soon as we arrival we will join the home to a thousand bird species as we walk through the tropical rainforest. Species such as the Grey spotted Woodpecker, Red headed Blue Bill, Purple headed Starling, the Toro Greenbul, Yellow whiskered Greenbul, Leaf love, Forest Robin, Buf spotted Woodpecker, White spotted Fluff tail, Yellow spotted Barbet, Grey throated Barbet, Yellow rumped Tinker bird, Yellow throated Tinker bird, Blue breasted Kingfisher, African Pygmy, Shining Blue, Woodland Kingfishers, Red tailed Ant Thrush, Chin spot Batis, Banded Wattle Eye, Chestnut Wattle Eye, Brown capped, Yellow mantled, Black Billed, Weyn’s Weavers, Red headed Malimbe, Violet backed Starling and many other fascinating species that are living in this forest. You will have lunch and later start on your journey back to Entebbe/Kampala to catch up your flight back home of check in your lodge.

Transport
Standard 4X4 Safari Vans/Land cruisers
Our standard mode of transport is by road and we use 4×4 Safari van and Land cruisers with open roof tops customized for game viewing and photography. Each Safari van/Land cruiser comes with a professionally trained driver/guide with fuel for the whole safari. Each client is entitled to a window seat and can take up to 8-10 people. We also have very comfortable super customs which can carry up 6 people with their luggage also have small vehicles like Alphads, Harrier and much more that can carry 4-5 people.
