3 Days Lake Bunyonyi Safari
This 3 Days Lake bunyonyi safari: will take you is approx. 7hours drive to the “Place of many little birds” is in South-western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale and it is close to the border with Rwanda. It is also well known as a deepest Lake thou some study insists that it is much deeper about 900m (3,000ft) leading it to its being the second deepest Lake in Africa and it a body water 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) West of Kabale Town. Lake Bunyonyi also takes its name from the abundant birdlife that call it home. All the 6 Islands around it have got many bird species that can be enjoyed by many bird watchers that visit the Lake. Over 200 species are found here and some of these include: African Harrier Hawk, Pied kingfisher, the Egrets, Malachite kingfisher among others.

DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Depart Entebbe/Kampala – Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast you will be picked by one of our representatives from Great Nest Image Safaris and thereafter set off to Southwestern Uganda for the lifetime experience in Lake Bunyonyi. Along the way stop over at the equator for refreshments, take enough photos and buy some souvenirs. You will proceed to Mbarara town where you will have lunch before heading to Kabale then continue to Lake Bunyonyi late evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 2- Community Visits – Tours Islands
After an early breakfast, you will visit the Abaheesi and Batwa communities, interact with them; it is surely a good time spent here. Have lunch you will go for a Boat ride/Canoeing and here you will be able to visit most of the Islands on the Lake. The Islands on the Lake were named according to the different bird species found on the Island and some were named for different reasons for example the Punishment Island which is the smallest and was used by the Bakiga people to drop their girls who got pregnant before marriage and here you will also learn a lot about the people that inhabit the Islands. Later you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Travel back to Kampala/Entebbe
After an early morning breakfast, you will have the last glance of the stunning landscape, you will drive to Kampala/Entebbe stopping in Mbarara town for lunch. You will arrive in Kampala/Entebbe reaching late evening.

Lake Bunyonyi is known as one of the few lakes in Uganda free of bilharzia (a common parasite found in southern Africa), making its waters safe for swimming. It’s also free of dangerous wildlife like hippos and crocodiles.
- Ride a Canoe
The most common mode of transportation on these waters is the dugout canoe, which offers a completely different perspective of the lake. You can rent your own to explore the islands. Shorter options include a 2 hour Touch of Bunyonyi ranging form US$15pp and the 5 hour Culture on the Crest Tour ranging from US$40pp.
- Hiking
You can hike along the best hiking trails on the islands or through the terraces of the Kigezi highlands to be rewarded with spectacular views of the landscapes and even some wildlife.
- Bird watching
All the 6 Islands around it have got many bird species that can be enjoyed by many bird watchers that visit the Lake. Over 200 species are found here and some of these include: African Harrier Hawk, Pied kingfisher, Egrets, Cinnamon-chested Bee eater, Grey crowned crested crane and much more.

How to get to Lake Bunyonyi
On the road it is 6 hours’ drive from Kampal (410km) to Kabale town and 8km marrum road from Kabale Town to Lake Bunyonyi.
SAFARI TRANSPORT
Standard 4X4 Safari Vans/Land cruisers
Our standard mode of transport is by road and we use 4×4 Safari van and Land cruisers with open roof tops customized for game viewing and photography. Each Safari van/Land cruiser comes with a professionally trained driver/guide with fuel for the whole safari. Each client is entitled to a window seat and can take up to 8-10 people. We also have very comfortable super customs which can carry up 6 people with their luggage also have small vehicles like Alphads, Harrier and much more that can carry 4-5 people.
