This 3 Days Akagera wildlife safari Rwanda : will give you an opportunity to explore the only savanna game park found in the country covering an area of about 2,500 sq km with a very breathtaking landscape that offers habitat to many savanna species such as giraffes, zebras, lions, buffaloes, leopards, elephants as well as spotted hyenas, in addition to different types of antelopes plus a profusion of birds. The forest fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, savannah plains and rolling highlands combine to make Akagera amongst the most scenic of reserves anywhere in Africa.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Akagera National Park
Today, our guide will pick you up from your hotel very early morning and drive you to Akagera National Park. Along the way you will stopover in Nyakarambi village where you will see the local women make fine-looking Imigongo paintings using cow dung. Later in the day, you will arrive in the park, check into your accommodation, have lunch and then set off for to Lake Ihema where you will have an exciting boat ride to see various water birds including the rare shoebill stork, plus different animals including elephants, crocodiles, different antelopes and hippos. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 2: Game viewing
You will have an early breakfast before setting out into the park where you will have a 2-3 hours game drive to see various animals. In the afternoon just after your lunch, you will have another opportunity to see other animals during our well guided game drives. Among the commonly seen animals here are: impalas, oribis, elephants, topis, buffaloes, bush bucks, zebras, water bucks, giraffes, cape elands and a number of primates such as baboons. You will return to your accommodation for dinner and the overnight, and there will be an optional nocturnal / night game drive.

Day 3: Final Game Drive, Return to Kigali – Departure
This is the final day of our safari. You will enjoy one more game drive to see more animals in the early morning before returning to Kigali where you will catch your departure flight.

Birding
With over 750 bird species in the park, Akagera National Park is purely a birders paradise and a dream destination. Birders who normally visit the park find it more interesting with its vast birdlife, ranging from the water to forest and also the savannah & migratory bird species-with many of them endemic to the park- plus extremely rare and threatened species like the shoebill stork, Papyrus gonolek, the flycatcher and many more.
Nature walks
Akagera National Park has various scenic sights that can be well appreciated up close. With guided nature walks, you are a given a chance to view different things closely compared to when having a game drive. While on a guided nature walk, an opportunity is granted to see the exotic plants, colorful butterfly species, the still water in some lakes, the water birds, the smaller animals, Insects and many more.
Fishing in Lake Shakani
For those who may wish to do fishing for sport or for food, Lake Shakani gives you a pleasure; you will hear the snorts of the Hippos, sounds of the water birds and many more. There are also some fishing tournaments that take place in the park every now and then and you could participate if there is one going at that time of the visit.
Getting there
How to get to Nyungwe forest
Nyungwe forest National Park is located in South Western Rwanda close to Lake Kivu and Democratic Republic of Congo, with Burundi border in the South. It is located near Cyangungu town, about 225 km and a 4-5-hour drive from Kigali. You can either drive to the park from Kigali, or fly there.
